Better known today as the developer of Skyrim and Fallout, Bethesda once had a well-respected racing game franchise and were deep into development of a licensed Skip Barber Racing title that never released.

Asobo, known today as the Microsoft Flight Simulator developer, created groundbreaking technology for large scale maps that was intended to be used in a high quality rally raid title. It was never released and ended up as FUEL, a post-apocalyptic open-world racing game. What happened?

There is some negative media coverage around the upcoming Forza Motorsport now as they appear to have removed some cars from their roster. I first saw this tweet yesterday and while I understand the perspective of those who feel somehow fouled by these changes, I also don’t really understand why it makes a difference as literally no money has changed hands unless you pre-emptively bought a higher spec XBox for this title.

The cars missing from the car roster are:

– 2018 Audi #44 R8 LMS GT3
– 2021 Cadillac #31 Whelen Racing DPi-V.R
– 2019 Ginetta #6 Team LNT Ginetta G60-LT-P1
– 2017 Oreca #38 Jackie Chan DC Racing Oreca 07
– 1983 Porsche #11 John Fitzpatrick Racing 956
– 2019 Porsche #70 Porsche Motorsport 935

What’s interesting is how this blog post covering the Developer Direct preview has been edited and now includes the following text:

“We’ve updated this blog to remove mentions of some cars that will not be available in the base Forza Motorsport game. We’ll share more in the future when those vehicles will be coming to Forza Motorsport and how they can be obtained. We apologize for any confusion.”

While this doesn’t mention DLC specifically it does mention “base game” and obviously infers for the first time the existence of possible non base game content for this title. It’s a little disappointing that cars which have been used to advertise the product as a whole are now seemingly being held back for DLC release or somehow not going to be ready despite the fact they’ve been showcased, but having put no money down on it I’m not really put out by this in any way.

I’ll be surprised if these cars aren’t given for free in a future update. Surely Turn10 aren’t running over budget to where six cars are going to make a difference?
