Video game development is rarely about one man, but if it was, then Terence Groening should certainly get a mention for his contributions to the genre as the man responsible for the physics of Sportscar GT, EA’s PC F1 and NASCAR games of the early 2000’s, rFactor, rFactor 2 and every title and rFpro simulator that spawned from ISI’s engine.

This interview with RSC details his early life and career, through to him joining iRacing in 2021.

As a direct ancestor of iRacing, the ‘Grand Prix Legends engine’ had multiple stock car racing false starts, before eventually releasing as NASCAR Racing 4. The original NASCAR 3, cancelled and replaced by one that used NASCAR 2’s engine, is barely remembered.

Sierra Entertainment, Inc. and Papyrus Racing Games Announce NASCAR(r) Racing 2002 Season Has Gone Gold!

Bellevue, WA (January 22, 2002) – Sierra Entertainment, Inc. and Papyrus Racing Games are proud to announce that NASCAR(r) Racing 2002 Season, the latest edition to the award winning racing franchise, has gone gold. NASCAR(r) Racing 2002 Season offers race fans more features to capture the heart-pounding intensity of actual NASCAR(r) racing better than ever.

For the first time in the history of Papyrus racing titles, race against a field of forty-two NASCAR(r) Winston Cup drivers featured in NASCAR(r) Racing 2002 Season. In addition, all new driving lessons, including optimum driving lines that change color to show the best braking and acceleration areas, and track tutorials narrated by 3-time Winston Cup Champion Darrell Walltrip, provide novice and seasoned drivers the most accessible and unique driving experience available.

Continuing to capture the realism of NASCAR(r) Racing, NASCAR(r) Racing 2002 Season will include the latest 2002 paint schemes and every Winston Cup track, including Chicagoland Speedway and Kansas Speedway. Additionally, a new sound engine, higher resolution textures, and a replay editor that can be used by the online community to edit and post their favorite racing moments, add more impressive features to this latest driving simulation.
