As a direct ancestor of iRacing, the ‘Grand Prix Legends engine’ had multiple stock car racing false starts, before eventually releasing as NASCAR Racing 4. The original NASCAR 3, cancelled and replaced by one that used NASCAR 2’s engine, is barely remembered.

Shortly after the release of Grand Prix Legends the sim racing community looked forward to another title that promised to offer a similar insight into historic racing. Trans-Am Racing ’68-’72 ultimately never released, a victim of a publishers shady dealings, but as a part of my research I uncovered a VHS of a never-released trailer for the game. Watch the trailer and read about what sim racing missed out on.

I’m a big fan of KartKraft, always have been. The video below, posted back in 2019, shows a few races in the Early Access build of the time against the AI on Atlanta Motorsport Park, a track that I licensed personally and visited myself to survey so it could be built for rFactor 2. The potential of this title was something I recognized long before Motorsport Games owned either it or rFactor 2, and my god if it isn’t disappointing to see nothing happening with it right now.

I think about KartKraft often and decided to reach out to Motorsport Games this week to ask if KartKraft is ever going to get any attention, because the last tweet from the Twitter account is still what I posted back in December when I had pushed my way onto the KK team and wanted to try to make a difference (I ended up leaving the company shortly afterwards). Here is what they had to say:

“We plan to bring some updates to KartKraft but as of right now our Australia studio is focusing all efforts on the upcoming INDYCAR title.”

While the statement may seem obvious, I like the fact that they gave me a response. INDYCAR 23 was delayed on an earnings call back in March and it’s hard to know just how long and in what way this limits what they could do for KartKraft in the meantime. I’ll keep my fingers crossed like a KartKraft driver model’s arms at full steering lock…
