Video game development is full of names that have made groundbreaking steps you’ve never even heard about. Shawn Nash is a behind-the-scenes pioneer responsible for SODA Off Road Racing’s incredible physics, Papyrus’ graphical advancements and iRacing’s use of laser scan data for the physical track surfaces.
This interview with RSC, published in 2021, details his early life and career, through both his own company, Papyrus, Electronic Arts, to his time at iRacing.
Better known today as the developer of Skyrim and Fallout, Bethesda once had a well-respected racing game franchise and were deep into development of a licensed Skip Barber Racing title that never released.
Inside Mac Games reported this month that Papyrus will be bringing their upcoming IndyCar Racing II title to the Apple Mac as well. It is stated to include 15 tracks, which means Indianapolis may be an addon as it was with the original IndyCar Racing, but otherwise should be similar to the PC release.
The same news item announced a version of NASCAR Racing is to follow in 1996:
Papyrus Design Group announced that it is porting their popular racing game, IndyCar Racing 2.0 for the Mac. Officially licensed by IndyCar, the game will include 15 tracks and will be based on the 1995 racing season. IndyCar Racing will feature high resolution graphics, engine and crashing effects in digital and stereo sound, realistic handling, as well as a multi-player mode for playing over networks and modem. IndyCar Racing 2.0 will be released in late 1995. A Mac version of NASCAR Racing will also be produced the following year.
