As a direct ancestor of iRacing, the ‘Grand Prix Legends engine’ had multiple stock car racing false starts, before eventually releasing as NASCAR Racing 4. The original NASCAR 3, cancelled and replaced by one that used NASCAR 2’s engine, is barely remembered.
Video game development is rarely about one man, but if it was, then Terence Groening should certainly get a mention for his contributions to the genre as the man responsible for the physics of Sportscar GT, EA’s PC F1 and NASCAR games of the early 2000’s, rFactor, rFactor 2 and every title and rFpro simulator that spawned from ISI’s engine.
This interview with RSC details his early life and career, through to him joining iRacing in 2021.
Studio 397 published their May, 2020 roadmap today. Here are the nuggets of information taken from it:
– New build within a week that includes customization of overlays.
– Portland roadcourse will be released for FREE in June.
– Silverstone has been updated, a layout added, will be released soon.
– Le Mans has been updated and will be released soon.
– There is an unannounced car still in the pipeline.
– IndyCar materials have been updated, will be released soon.
– BOP update for all GTE cars expected soon.
– Mentioned the Ferrari 488 GT3, but not a date of release (I’m expecting June though).
Honestly, things sound really busy right now at the studio and this is a pretty big change from the last roadmap. In the last month they’ve pushed out a LOT of content.
