GameCenter today published a news item with a lot more information on the recently announced Sports Car title from Virgin.

Their news item:

Just when you thought all the big racing licenses, like IndyCar and Formula 1, had been snagged, Virgin Interactive announces that it too will be zooming along with its own series. Two hot racing titles endorsed by Professional SportsCar Racing are currently in development. But proving you’ve got to pay to play, Virgin is sponsoring the Professional SportsCar Racing circuit, to gain the insider access necessary not only to make these games, but to be assured a license.

“Sponsoring the Professional SportsCar Racing circuit is a great opportunity for Virgin Interactive to work closely with the teams and drivers to create the most realistic and exciting interactive sports car racing brand in the market,” says Simon Jeffery, Virgin Interactive’s vice president of marketing. “The circuit is offering Virgin an unprecedented degree of cooperation in terms of design and technical detail, which will allow us to deliver a higher level of product in the sports racing game genre.”

Unlike IndyCars or the stock cars found in NASCAR, Virgin promises more upscale transportation in its titles. Choose between getting behind the wheel of Ferraris, Porsches, and Corvettes, as well as Acura’s NSX. If you feel a need for speed, but still like playing it safe, try to set the pace with a Ford Esperante or an Oldsmobile Aurora. Or if you want to feel what it’s like to race the fastest production sports car on earth, then you’ll want to put the pedal to the metal with the McClaren F1.

Virgin also promises that the cars in the tentatively titled Professional SportsCar Racing will not only “look the part, they’ll drive like it.” It plans on utilizing advanced driving simulations created for the auto industry, thereby ensuring that the game will feature aerodynamically correct replicas of sports car models so players know what it’s really like to command each set of wheels. The game will also sport physically accurate representations of most race tracks on the circuit and likenesses of famed racing teams.

Professional SportsCar Racing is currently slated for a late 1998 release for Windows 95 and Sony PlayStation consoles.
