If you ever played Papyrus’ seminal Grand Prix Legends then you’ve read his name. Rich began working as a tester on NASCAR Racing (1994) and was with Papyrus at the end. In this interview, published in 2022, we discuss his time at the legendary studio and the design of Grand Prix Legends, including initial feelings of hurt at not being asked to join iRacing.

Asobo, known today as the Microsoft Flight Simulator developer, created groundbreaking technology for large scale maps that was intended to be used in a high quality rally raid title. It was never released and ended up as FUEL, a post-apocalyptic open-world racing game. What happened?

Frontier have made a clarifying post on Reddit to fix apparent “crossed wires” between them and the community over their previous post. However, apart from confirming there will be small patches and fixes where required, I don’t really feel like it changes very much. It clearly states, again, that there will be no new gameplay features added.

A comment below the newer post on Reddit asked if the unlapping issue is considered a new feature and the answer was that it is “on a list of topics”. This comes after a reply yesterday that said “After discussing all the reports of some cars not unlapping under the Safety Car at length with our dev team, we can now confirm that this will not be addressed further in F1 Manager 2022. After investigation, the team have established that changes to this area would require significant gameplay alterations that are just not within scope for this game.”

Though a further reply in today’s clarification post does say “While we can’t go into specifics at this stage, take today’s update as the latest clarification. We will be focussing on these “hot topics” for future updates to the current game and will have a bit more clarity on what that exactly means as soon as we can.”

The waters, for me at least, are more muddy now than they were before the clarifying statement. People didn’t like what was said yesterday, of course, but now they don’t even know how to feel. Neither do I. This sort of feels like the Elite (space game I mentioned) forums all over again.

Hey everyone,

It looks like there are some crossed wires within Frontier in relation to F1 Manager 2022.

To be crystal clear: we will continue to support F1 Manager 2022, with multiple updates currently in the pipeline, focused on addressing the most important topics raised by the community.

This continues with our upcoming update, which includes a number of changes and improvements, including resolving issues around Estimated Race Time calculations and fuel usage in Qualifying sessions, as well as additional updates, where required, focusing solely on improving your experience and addressing more player reports.

Yesterday’s post was to explain that the addition of any new significant gameplay features for F1 Manager 2022 requested by players would not be possible, but this was not clear.

Everyone on the F1 Manager 2022 team remains focused on further improving the game, and your feedback is the driving force behind that. Thank you for your support, and we’ll be in touch with a status update as soon as possible.
