Video game development is rarely about one man, but if it was, then Terence Groening should certainly get a mention for his contributions to the genre as the man responsible for the physics of Sportscar GT, EA’s PC F1 and NASCAR games of the early 2000’s, rFactor, rFactor 2 and every title and rFpro simulator that spawned from ISI’s engine.

This interview with RSC details his early life and career, through to him joining iRacing in 2021.

Shortly after the release of Grand Prix Legends the sim racing community looked forward to another title that promised to offer a similar insight into historic racing. Trans-Am Racing ’68-’72 ultimately never released, a victim of a publishers shady dealings, but as a part of my research I uncovered a VHS of a never-released trailer for the game. Last night Reiza Studios released their latest update, featuring the Lola T95/00 & Reynard 95i Indy cars from 1995 that many of us remember from the classic Papyrus title IndyCar Racing II (later released as CART Racing) now added to the existing Racin’ USA DLC Part Two. These are, for me, the perfect car for a sim to feature as a historic. When I was primarily in-charge of licensing for rFactor 2 I wanted to bring the 1986 March, 1993 Lola and 1995 Reynards to rFactor 2 and did license two of those (one was announced) that were unfortunately never built. So you can imagine I am quite delighted to see someone build and release these for the masses to enjoy. These cars deserve it.

I don’t think AMS2 is the perfect IndyCar sim, that title is still held by ICR2, but they’re getting soooo close… Check out the amazing GPLaps ‘first look’ video below.
