iRacing have released a bunch of technical previews, screenshots, an onboard lap and new content videos. With this release, iRacing have showcased that Willow Springs will be the first to have a significant step in the pre-fx visuals (base art). For the first time, iRacing are putting significant work into off-track areas and using more advanced shaders (a visual tool that blends one surface type to another – they are not shadows). Generally, this track and future ones should look much more ‘alive’.
You can see the onboard lap and content trailer below. The Willow Springs track will be released with the new build due on June 6, 2023.
Greg Hill, Senior VP and Executive Producer at iRacing, posted this on his Twitter:
Willow Springs was a challenging yet fun project for our team. Due to the unique landscape, the project pushed them hard to innovate. We developed advanced multi-material shaders, we finally debut the foliage system, and we have completely re-done our off-track terrain process.
Our whole team contributed towards this result, from our multi-decade veterans to our amazing new hires who have brought so much energy to the company. These improvements will be on new tracks and eventually rolled out to older tracks.
Our broadcast team will be relieved to have more placement options for their cameras with a new high-quality five-layer terrain process.
