The Unreleased GPL-Like Genre-Defining Historic Trans-Am Simulation

Shortly after the release of Grand Prix Legends the sim racing community looked forward to another title that promised to offer a similar insight into historic racing. Trans-Am Racing ’68-’72 ultimately never released, a victim of a publishers shady dealings, but as a part of my research I uncovered a VHS of a never-released trailer for the game. Legendary British game developer whose career spanned a 20 year period and included groundbreaking simulations of Formula Three and Formula One, including arguably the first ever racing sim: Revs (1984).

Most famous for his Grand Prix series that were published under the MicroProse label until 2000, his career unceremoniously ended when his studio was shut down by Infogrames and the Xbox version of Grand Prix 4 cancelled just prior to release.

With the recently announced new title the team is working on, Codemasters today pushed out what is probably the second-to-last patch for DiRT Rally 2.0 (1.15 will be released late 2020).

This update includes a number of good quality of life changes.

Content:

Refined grammar on several Scenario descriptions and objectives.
Resolved issue where some retired AI times were appearing incorrectly in Scenarios.
Added missing Rival icon to specific AI drivers in some specific Scenarios.
Adjusted mechanical damage criteria so that bodywork damage doesn’t affect pass/failure of relevant Scenarios.

Rallycross:
Resolved issue where race wouldn’t restart if AI driver jumped the start of a race.
Adjusted AI driver allocations so that they would now appear in the correct FIA World Rallycross Championship year.

My Team:
Resolved issue where some players could not access DLC cars they had purchased/owned in-game.

Miscellaneous:
Corrected several team colours in Service Areas to match livery colour on player’s car.
Resolved issue where menu music would play for a split-second when a player Restarted a Stage.
Resolved issue where some players would lose access to cars in their Garage after resetting their profile.
Adjusted PlayStation Store link in Japanese versions of the game to go to the correct page.
Made minor bug-fixes throughout title.
Made minor stability improvements throughout title.

DiRT Rally 2.0

DR2 is a racing video game developed and published by Codemasters featuring a mixture of Rally and Rallycross content from both historic and modern era.

The game may be considered the thirteenth title in the Colin McRae Rally series, and is the seventh title to carry the Dirt name. The publisher confusingly released DiRT Rally, DiRT 4 then Dirt Rally 2.0 all with a similar concept and content between 2015 and 2019.
