If you ever played Papyrus’ seminal Grand Prix Legends then you’ve read his name. Rich began working as a tester on NASCAR Racing (1994) and was with Papyrus at the end. In this interview, published in 2022, we discuss his time at the legendary studio and the design of Grand Prix Legends, including initial feelings of hurt at not being asked to join iRacing.

Motorsims have announced that World Challenge driver Bobby Archer has joined their team as another consultant. We’re not seeing much of the actual game here…

SCCA World Challenge Driver, Bobby Archer, Joins Motorsims Team
Renowned Race Car Driver to Consult on Development of Motorsims’ SCCA Trans-Am simulation

Irving, Texas – April 3, 2000 – Motorsport Simulations, Inc. (Motorsims), creators of PC racing simulations and the Motorsims Racing Network™ online community, today announced that it has signed SCCA® World Challenge® race car driver Bobby Archer to consult on the development of Motorsims’ SCCA Trans-Am simulation. Scoring podium finishes in both the SCCA Trans-Am® and the SCCA U.S. Endurance® Championship, Archer has extensive knowledge on the sport and will also consult and provide editorial for Motorsims’ Moto1.net web site that will launch prior to the retail distribution of the game in Fall 2000.

“With his experience of Trans-Am racing, Bobby Archer will bring the feel and spirit of this sport from the race track into our development studios,” said Bob McCarthy, founder of Motorsims. “Bobby will advise us on every phase of Motorsims’ SCCA Trans-Am simulation, from physics and weather modeling to the design of the race cars. His expertise will assure that all aspects of this title mirror actual SCCA Trans-Am racing conditions and thrills.”

Bobby will be working with Motorsims to help make SCCA Trans-Am the most realistic racing simulation available on the market. With his numerous years of involvement with the SCCA, Bobby has all of the knowledge necessary to help complete this task. He will be working closely with Motorsims’ development team to help them more accurately model the real world physics of an actual Trans-Am racing vehicle. Bobby will also be working with the art department to help them more accurately model the various SCCA Trans-Am road courses. With Bobby’s input into the game, Motorsims feels confident that SCCA Trans-Am will be the best racing sim available for the PC today.

In 1998 Archer returned to the World Challenge after a four year absence. He finished fifth overall in the T1 Drivers’ Championship on the strength of five podium finishes in six starts, including runner-up finishes in the final three events (Road America, Watkins Glen and Pikes Peak). In 1999, Archer’s sixth season of World Challenge competition, he won the Speedvision GT Drivers’ Championship.
