Video game development is rarely about one man, but if it was, then Terence Groening should certainly get a mention for his contributions to the genre as the man responsible for the physics of Sportscar GT, EA’s PC F1 and NASCAR games of the early 2000’s, rFactor, rFactor 2 and every title and rFpro simulator that spawned from ISI’s engine.
This interview with RSC details his early life and career, through to him joining iRacing in 2021.
If you ever played Papyrus’ seminal Grand Prix Legends then you’ve read his name. Rich began working as a tester on NASCAR Racing (1994) and was with Papyrus at the end. In this interview, published in 2022, we discuss his time at the legendary studio and the design of Grand Prix Legends, including initial feelings of hurt at not being asked to join iRacing.
Nacon and RaceWard Studios today released a new gameplay trailer for their upcoming ‘build it, race it’ RiMS Racing motorcycle simulator. In what is described as a hot lap (though there seems to be ooooodles of time lost over the lap), we see a lap of the world famous Suzuka Circuit on the 2019 Kawasaki Ninja ZX10-RR. After that, we see the upgrade process for the bike and the UI used for doing that.
The bike is one eight bikes that will feature alongside the Aprilia RSV4 1100 Factory, BMW M 1000 RR, Ducati Panigale V4 R, Honda CBR1000RR ABS, MV Agusta F4 RC, Suzuki GSX-R1000R and the Yamaha YZF-R1. The upgrades shown are just a few of over 500 fully-licensed parts you can fit to the bikes.
You can find out more about RiMS Racing at Nacon Connect (basically their own little E3 media day) on July 6, 2021 at 7pm CEST.
Note: It’s worth sticking around for the bike upgrading segment of the trailer after the Suzuka lap.
