If you ever played Papyrus’ seminal Grand Prix Legends then you’ve read his name. Rich began working as a tester on NASCAR Racing (1994) and was with Papyrus at the end. In this interview, published in 2022, we discuss his time at the legendary studio and the design of Grand Prix Legends, including initial feelings of hurt at not being asked to join iRacing.
As a direct ancestor of iRacing, the ‘Grand Prix Legends engine’ had multiple stock car racing false starts, before eventually releasing as NASCAR Racing 4. The original NASCAR 3, cancelled and replaced by one that used NASCAR 2’s engine, is barely remembered.
Having successfully split their trailer, preview and release to force me to post three news items about one thing (good job, guys – lol), Studio 397 today released their Formula Pro open-wheel eSports car that seems to be based on the 2022 F1 regulations in every way except engine/power (it runs with a V10 @ 18,000 RPM and 800 HP).
You can purchase the car on Steam for $5.93 USD (Steam prices vary).
Something I find interesting about this car specifically is that they said that they worked with Goodyear to develop the tire the car uses both in the wet and dry. This should provide some unique and quality elements to the longer races.
