Video game development is rarely about one man, but if it was, then Terence Groening should certainly get a mention for his contributions to the genre as the man responsible for the physics of Sportscar GT, EA’s PC F1 and NASCAR games of the early 2000’s, rFactor, rFactor 2 and every title and rFpro simulator that spawned from ISI’s engine.
This interview with RSC details his early life and career, through to him joining iRacing in 2021.
First seen in sim racing with GP2 (1996).
Join Jon Denton, Tim Wheatley, Simon Croft and guest(s) as they discuss sim racing and racing games past, present and future.
Studio 397 posted their roadmap today. Here are the nuggets of new information:
– Monza (fully licensed and modern layout) officially announced (screens below).
– Sebring PBR update incoming (screens below), to release in June.
– More “bigger” PBR updates are in-progress.
– June development will focus on background tooling (to enable future updates).
– Shadow Cascading is to be improved, more similar to AC and ACC which have shadow detailing fade in rather than appear with a solid line (see animations below).
– UI improvements coming to help those with less common controllers. You’ll now be able to configure them more deeply from within the UI.
– DRS on / off information will be shown in the overlay soon. Being added to the release candidate soon.
– Work continues on the competition system. At this point there are just ‘special events’ posted and not regular races multiple times a day.
– Studio 397 now officially part of Motorsport Games. They have a lengthy interview with Stephen Hood (CEO of MSG) scheduled to post sometime in June.
Highlight of this month is obviously Monza. While it could be argued that they could have gone for something else, this does open the product up to more eSports opportunities. There is no doubt whatsoever that Ferrari would prefer to use an Italian track like Monza in any event…
