The 2006 Renault R26, powered by their own RS26 V8 engine, used a 7-speed transmission for the first time in team history. It was incredibly reliable with Fernando Alonso only using a single chassis the entire season. The car carried over from the successes of 2005, giving him another world championship title and Renault eight wins for their second constructors championship in two years.
