Video game development is full of names that have made groundbreaking steps you’ve never even heard about. Shawn Nash is a behind-the-scenes pioneer responsible for SODA Off Road Racing’s incredible physics, Papyrus’ graphical advancements and iRacing’s use of laser scan data for the physical track surfaces.

This interview with RSC, published in 2021, details his early life and career, through both his own company, Papyrus, Electronic Arts, to his time at iRacing.

Shortly after the release of Grand Prix Legends the sim racing community looked forward to another title that promised to offer a similar insight into historic racing. Trans-Am Racing ’68-’72 ultimately never released, a victim of a publishers shady dealings, but as a part of my research I uncovered a VHS of a never-released trailer for the game. Watch the trailer and read about what sim racing missed out on.

Highlights

Did you think we were done improving scrubs? Not quite yet! Scrubs are now looser and easier to bring back, safer and more reliable on steep jumps, and even have new animations.
No more AI bullying! Impacts between Players and AI have been reworked to give Players the advantage. Now it’s your turn to shove them around!
Say goodbye to weird wrecks in deep ruts! Chassis collision has been revamped to improve interactions with deformed terrain and other obstacles.
ATVs got some much-needed love. They are now heavier, bounce less on hard landings, and have improved suspension.
Button remapping is finally here! Create custom controls by remapping nearly every input in the game.
If you’re looking for a challenge before the start of the moto season, look no further than the newly improved Expert Supercross tracks! Deeper whoops and bigger jumps will have you checking your speed and rethinking those rhythms!
Race starts are looking a little more lively with new start gate warm-up animations and attack pose animations. Get yourself into the attack pose by holding the clutch and throttle then leaning forward so you’re ready when the gates drop!
Take on your rivals with new graphic kits from Rival Ink for the 2023 OEM DLC MX Kawasaki, Suzuki, and Honda bikes.
The Season 2 Compound DLC is a double feature! Take your skills to the limit on the KTM RD Field, then go all out on the GOAT Farm; updated for its return in Legends.
Happy Holidays, from us to you! We’ve decked the garage with festive holiday decor. And if you’re feeling jolly, try on the new Holiday Gear and take out your sleigh.

Physics: Fixed a bug which sometimes caused wrecks upon landing after performing a whip or scrub.
Physics: Reduced penalty impact to steering control when triggering a near-wreck with that penalty.
Physics: Adjusted forces required to trigger some near-wreck conditions related to landing and sliding.

Physics: Increased the influence of forward and backward leaning on suspension. Pitching the rider forward and backwards will now make it easier to keep the front-end up in whoop sections.
Animation: Added three new warm-up animations to riders at the start gate: shoulder hype, shadow boxing, and glove warmer.
Animation: Added attack pose animation to AI riders before the gate drop. Get yourself into the attack pose by holding the clutch and throttle then leaning forward to keep the front wheel down.

Animation: Updated some near-wreck animations to appear more natural and better illustrate the cause of the condition.
Animation: Improved cornering animations to help communicate when the bike is losing traction. During the slide, the eider becomes more upright and will start to lose balance right before completely sliding out.
