Shortly after the release of Grand Prix Legends the sim racing community looked forward to another title that promised to offer a similar insight into historic racing. Trans-Am Racing ’68-’72 ultimately never released, a victim of a publishers shady dealings, but as a part of my research I uncovered a VHS of a never-released trailer for the game. The 2008 McLaren MP4-23 was an ultimately successful car that took six wins and the championship for Lewis Hamilton who (at the time) was the youngest ever to win the title. Powered by the Mercedes-Benz FO 108V V8 it featured a longer wheelbase and several major aero revisions from the previous seasons MP4-22. It finished second in the constructors championship to Ferrari, who looked set to win the drivers title until the final corner of the final race, when Hamilton made the pass to win the title by one point over Felipe Massa.
The McLaren MP4-23 was included as historic content in F1 2019.
