As a direct ancestor of iRacing, the ‘Grand Prix Legends engine’ had multiple stock car racing false starts, before eventually releasing as NASCAR Racing 4. The original NASCAR 3, cancelled and replaced by one that used NASCAR 2’s engine, is barely remembered.
Shortly after the release of Grand Prix Legends the sim racing community looked forward to another title that promised to offer a similar insight into historic racing. Trans-Am Racing ’68-’72 ultimately never released, a victim of a publishers shady dealings, but as a part of my research I uncovered a VHS of a never-released trailer for the game. Created around 1996, ISI’s original Web site featured a company profile along with pages for Zone Raiders, Youtopia and Professional Sports Car Racing (Sports Car GT).
The XCAR Web site was an incredible source of information on car handling and physics centered around a potential modding community that really never formed.
The earliest available version of the Thrustmaster Web site, archived shortly after release of the Grand Prix 1 Wheel, features profiles of all the controllers available at the time along with technical support answers.
The original papy.com Web site featured profiles for NASCAR Racing and the newly-released Track Pack, as well as the brand-new IndyCar Racing II. A large amount of information on their older titles are available via the Technical Support section.
