Video game development is rarely about one man, but if it was, then Terence Groening should certainly get a mention for his contributions to the genre as the man responsible for the physics of Sportscar GT, EA’s PC F1 and NASCAR games of the early 2000’s, rFactor, rFactor 2 and every title and rFpro simulator that spawned from ISI’s engine.

This interview with RSC details his early life and career, through to him joining iRacing in 2021.

Asobo, known today as the Microsoft Flight Simulator developer, created groundbreaking technology for large scale maps that was intended to be used in a high quality rally raid title. It was never released and ended up as FUEL, a post-apocalyptic open-world racing game. What happened?

In their latest newsletter Straight4 Studios have confirmed that the Lister Storm will be coming to GTRevival in what is the first officially announced car coming to the title. There’s a superb write-up on their Web site detailing the history of the brand and racing pedigree of the car itself, but unfortunately – no screenshots.

LISTER STORM GT Specifications
Engine: Jaguar V12 SOHC 24 valves
Displacement: 7.0 L 6,996 cc (426.9 cu in)
Compression: 10.5:1
Power: 554 PS (407 kW; 546 hp) at 6,100 rpm
Torque: 786.37 N⋅m (580.0 lb⋅ft) at 3,450 rpm
Top speed: 335 km/h (208 mph)
Acceleration: 0-100km/h 3.8s
Coefficient of drag: Cd=0.35

I really do love this car as, perhaps more than the Dodge Viper that carried GTR sponsorship and was driven by SIMBIN’s Henrik Roos, it was probably the car most of us associated with their GTR franchise. It’s frankly really cool to see it returning!

There was a render posted along with the news. Feel free to compare that to the GTR 2 screenshot I used in the header, I guess?

Also in the newsletter was the confirmation that Jonathan “ZonZ” Marier has joined the studio. This, for me, is one of the cooler announcements as the trailers produced highlighting Project Cars and Project Cars 2 were really often spectacular.

This is awesome news - as I'm assuming that it won't be racing alone in the game...

I never got on too well with it in GTR2, but a quick look at the set that was, it's been a while (https://www.igcd.net/game.php?id=10000202) and if we had that line-up, this would be an amazing game.

Here's hoping!
