3DFX has announced that the V4 and V5 graphics cards will officially launch later this month.

Press release:

3DFX TARGETS CeBIT 2000 FOR EUROPEAN LAUNCH OF VOODOO 4 AND 5
11/02/2000

3dfx has chosen the premier German exhibition, CeBIT, for the launch of its next generation Voodoo cards. The new product line will be demonstrated at 3dfx’s high profile stand (stand number D39) in Hall 9, the multimedia hall, at CeBIT 2000, which runs from February 24th until March 1st.

The European launch of the new cards will be heralded by a personal appearance by Lara Croft, currently being played by Dutch model, Lara Weller. The famous Tomb Raider character will be on-stand from 2pm on Friday, February 25th. Her appearance will be followed by a launch party in the evening, which will feature a live set from top UK DJ, Tim Lyall, and visuals provided by DNADancer.

3dfx has ensured that its stand will be one of the more prominent at CeBIT 2000 by signing up some of the world’s top PC games publishers to showcase some current and forthcoming games exclusively on the stand. Some of the world’s largest publishers including Eidos, Activision, Virgin and Acclaim will be putting their weight behind 3dfx and supporting the Voodoo cards with a range of brand new titles, some of which are available now and some which are due for release in 2000. Titles which will be on show on the stand include Eidos’ Tomb Raider 4 and Final Fantasy VIII, Activision’s Star Trek Voyager Elite Force, Vampyre: The Masquerade and Dark Reign 2 and Virgin Interactive’s Messiah and Evolva.

“We had a strong presence at CeBIT last year, which proved hugely successful and the considerable resource that we have put behind our attendance this year is sure not to disappoint,” said Chris Meredith, Director of Marketing, EMEA, for 3dfx. “CeBIT is an enormous show and since this is the first time that we will demonstrate our latest generation of Voodoo products anywhere in the world, it was vital that we partnered with some of the best worldwide publishers who’s products best illustrate our technological breakthroughs.”

The new cards are based on 3dfx’s new VSA-100 processor, a highly scalable design that supports the integration of one to 32 chips per system, using proprietary programmable scan-line interleaving (SLI) techniques, to deliver ultimate fill rates and high visual reality through breakthrough digital cinematic effects. Additionally, the VSA-100 architecture substantially improves the overall 3D rendering quality by incorporating advanced full-scene anti-aliasing technology, which is now available for the first time at real-time frame rates and competitive consumer prices.

The Voodoo4 4500, Voodoo5 5000 and Voodoo5 5500 will be available in the shops in Spring 2000. Prices have yet to be confirmed.
