Better known today as the developer of Skyrim and Fallout, Bethesda once had a well-respected racing game franchise and were deep into development of a licensed Skip Barber Racing title that never released.

Announced in a series of tweets by Ian Bell, then CEO of Slightly Mad Studios, Project Cars 4 was said to be “…the most realistic simulation ever made. In every area, in every way.” Today, unfortunately, we’ve learned via a tweet from Slightly Mad Studios that PCARS 4 will seemingly never release at all.
The text of the announcement reads:
To our Project CARS community,
Today, we have made the tough decision to halt the development of our next Project CARS game.
On behalf of the entire team, we thank you for your dedication and passion over the years.
We hope to see you on another grid in the future.
My expectations on how the team will go forward are that some may join Ian Bell on his future project, while the announcement itself may be hinting the rest of the team will join Codemasters in developing future GRID franchise titles as a play on words within its final sentence. Time will tell.
Project CARS 1 and 2 were withdrawn from sale within the last couple of months, while Project CARS 3 currently remains on Steam. If you’re the collecting or completionist sort of person that I am, you may want to add that title to your collection before it gets taken away and forgotten as well.
Announced in a series of then-deleted tweets by Ian Bell of SMS. Cancelled to years later.
