Better known today as the developer of Skyrim and Fallout, Bethesda once had a well-respected racing game franchise and were deep into development of a licensed Skip Barber Racing title that never released.

Video game development is full of names that have made groundbreaking steps you’ve never even heard about. Shawn Nash is a behind-the-scenes pioneer responsible for SODA Off Road Racing’s incredible physics, Papyrus’ graphical advancements and iRacing’s use of laser scan data for the physical track surfaces.

This interview with RSC, published in 2021, details his early life and career, through both his own company, Papyrus, Electronic Arts, to his time at iRacing.

Neopica and Nacon have today announced that Overpass 2 has been pulled forward by about a month and will now release September 28, 2023. This looks like an interesting title and I am pretty excited to see some of the environments and whether this will scratch the DiRT franchise and MudRunner itch.

Press release:

OVERPASS 2 AT THE STARTING LINE!

Lesquin, France – September 6, 2023 – Neopica and NACON are pleased to announce that the initial release date for Overpass 2, the off-road racing and route-plotting game, has been brought forward from October 19 to September 28, 2023 in Europe, and to October 16, 2023 in the USA and the rest of the world. It will be available on PlayStation®5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam, Epic Games Store). A brand-new trailer presents two vehicle categories which will feature in the game alongside the UTVs (Utility Task Vehicles): Rock Bouncers and ATVs (All-Terrain Vehicles).

Overpass 2 gives players the opportunity to drive 33 vehicles in 3 distinct categories:

UTVs (previously showcased in their own reveal trailer) are renowned for their speed and maneuverability, and are suited to any situation. These are the game’s all-rounder vehicles, with 17 UTVs from four famous manufacturers to choose from: Kawasaki, Yamaha, Polaris, and Artic Cat.

ATVs (more commonly known as “Quads”) are all-terrain four-wheeled bikes designed for various purposes such as leisure, sport, and utility. Flexible, practical, and easy to drive, they are suitable for negotiating the narrowest routes, e.g., in a forest, or handling the extremely tight turns on the tracks. The ATVs are top of the off-road class in terms of agility and precision. The game will have 12 ATVs to choose from, by 5 famous manufacturers: Arctic Cat, Kawasaki, Polaris, Suzuki, and Yamaha.

Rock Bouncers are unorthodox-looking vehicles which are one of the major novelties of this second edition. Equipped with a reinforced frame that can withstand any impact, they are specially designed for climbing near-vertical rock walls. Thanks to their supercharged engines and the coil springs fitted on all four drive wheels, they can climb steep slopes where no other vehicle could venture, as well as negotiate the toughest rocks and bumps without getting stuck. Focused on speed, an aggressive driving style, and handling the most difficult obstacles, Rock Bouncers provide the most extreme off-road experience. The game will have 4 officially-licensed Rock Bouncers to choose from: Venom, Screamin Blue, Rum Runner, and Smoked-out.

Overpass 2 will give players the opportunity to tackle the game’s many races and challenges in a variety of environments, with vehicles suited to every driving style and every situation. With a wide choice of vehicles across three distinct categories from the biggest manufacturers in this extraordinary discipline, a full career mode, and advanced customization for both drivers and vehicles, Overpass 2 offers gameplay that is unprecedented in the off-road racing genre.

Overpass 2 content and novelties:
– 33 vehicles from official brands, across 3 categories: UTVs, ATVs, and Rock Bouncers
– 5 different game modes: off-road sprints, off-road circuits, hillclimbs, obstacle courses, and closed circuits
– 31 captivating circuits, strewn with a variety of obstacles
– Official manufacturers, equipment and sponsors
– 5 unique environments: Baja Desert, Johnson Valley, Utah Desert, East Central US, Western Europe
– A full career mode with team and calendar management
– Advanced customization of vehicles and drivers
– A local split-screen mode for up to 4 players
– Online races for up to 8 players

Overpass 2 will be released for PlayStation®5, Xbox Series X|S and PC (Steam, Epic Games Store) on September 28, 2023 in Europe on October 16, 2023 in the US and the rest of the world.
