Press release:

Motorsims Signs Legendary Racing Guru Carroll Smith; Engineering Legend to Help Create the Most Accurate Racing Simulations Ever Seen

LAS COLINAS, Texas–July 13, 1999–Motorsport Simulations (Motorsims), creators of motorsport racing simulations, the Motorsims Racing Network, and the first motorsport racing online community (http://www.motorsims.com), today announced that legendary racing car engineer and designer Carroll Smith will be joining the Motorsims team as a consultant and columnist. Bringing to Motorsims his years of experience within the racing industry, Smith will oversee the modeling of car dynamics and engineering for Motorsims’ games. The first product he will work on will be the recently announced SCCA Can-Am game. Smith will also write a regular column for the Motorsims Racing Network, which will contain editorial content and racing news in addition to hosting online racing.

Known to the racing world as the “Racing Engineering Guru,” Carroll Smith has been involved in racing as a driver, an engineer and a team manager since 1955. His designs include Trans-Am cars, GT and touring cars, Formula cars, and off-road trucks. His cars have won races and championships in North America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and Mexico. He has coached many of the racing world’s leading drivers and authored numerous books and articles about racing, including the authoritative “To Win” series covering four decades of racing history.

“Hands down, Carroll Smith is one of the most respected experts in the field of motorsports. His credentials as a race driver, engineer, designer, coach and team leader are world renowned,” notes Motorsims founder and chairman Bob McCarthy. “Having Carroll Smith on board to assist in the development of our racing simulations stands as a commitment to the fans and enthusiasts of motorsport racing. Once again, Motorsims is setting the standard by which true racing simulations must be judged.”

“Over the years, I’ve used cutting-edge technology to engineer and design new levels of performance in racing. I’ve coached winning race drivers and I’ve engineered sports cars that win races. With Motorsims, now I’ll be able to apply my knowledge to simulations for all racing enthusiasts to enjoy,” said Carroll Smith.

Smith joins Motorsims team of racing consultants who bring to the company an unprecedented wealth of racing knowledge and expertise. Racing personalities, broadcasters and analysts, such as Pat Patterson, Dave Despain and Dave Sadowski, act as ambassadors for Motorsims in the racing world. They advise in many areas of the detailed multiplayer racing simulations, created by Motorsims and based on exclusive licenses with the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) and the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA). The company will launch their online racing channel–the Motorsims Racing Network–this August with the release of the officially endorsed AMA Superbike game.
