Better known today as the developer of Skyrim and Fallout, Bethesda once had a well-respected racing game franchise and were deep into development of a licensed Skip Barber Racing title that never released.

Asobo, known today as the Microsoft Flight Simulator developer, created groundbreaking technology for large scale maps that was intended to be used in a high quality rally raid title. It was never released and ended up as FUEL, a post-apocalyptic open-world racing game. What happened?

Codemasters have updated the F1 22 A.I. driver ratings up-to-date to the results of the final race of the season in Abu Dhabi. Most notable are a raise in stats for George Russell and a loss for both Sergio Perez and Mick Schumacher, the latter having finished ahead of Magnussen in 3 of the 4 races since the stats were last updated.

Text from their post:

The 2022 season wrapped up in style at Yas Marina, with another dominant display from the already crowned champion, Max Verstappen. With the finale completed and the final standings secured, we’ve crunched the numbers to form a foundation for the final F1® 22 Driver Ratings, calculated alongside the expertise of David Croft, Alex Jacques, and Anthony Davidson.

Compare and contrast today’s ratings reveal in more depth in our online database here.

As a reminder, here is how each category is determined:

Experience: The number of race starts a driver has over the course of their career.
Racecraft: The driver’s ability to work their way through the pack and finish in a higher position than where they started.
Awareness: The less time spent in the steward’s room will help drivers here. Real-world punishments will impact the score in this category.
Pace: Benefits those who get closest to the fastest qualifying and race lap times. A driver beating their teammate is also taken into consideration.
Rating: The combination of the previous four ratings. This overall rating will go up and down throughout the season based on performance.

For the last time this season, let’s get into some notable stat changes between Japan and Abu Dhabi:

George Russell – Mercedes

Russell has had a very positive end to the season. Not only did he secure his first win in F1 with a Sprint Race victory at Brazil, he followed it up with the race win, leading his teammate Lewis Hamilton home for a Mercedes and British 1-2, their first of the season.

George is just one of two drivers who have had an Overall stats boost – with his rising to 90. Despite his Awareness dropping by one for a couple penalties in Austin and Abu Dhabi, his Racecraft and Experience both went up by one.

Sergio Perez – Red Bull Racing

Perez narrowly missed out on completing a perfect season for Red Bull Racing, after being pipped to second in the championship by Charles Leclerc. This was following a below par result in Brazil and a perfectly-time strategy call from Ferrari in the closing stages of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Whilst his Experience has gone up by one, his Pace has dropped by one, resulting in an Overall drop of one to 88. He’ll no doubt look back on 2022 with mixed emotions, but has set himself up well for 2023.

Mick Schumacher – Haas F1 Team

Nobody can fault Schumacher’s tenacity in the closing stages of the 2022 season. With a contract renewal in the balance, he fought tooth and nail to get the most out of every result. Unfortunately, his efforts weren’t enough and finds himself without a seat for the 2023 season after being replaced by seasoned substitute, Nico Hulkenberg.

Schumacher is one of four drivers vacating their seats in 2023, with Daniel Ricciardo already lined up in the reserve slot for Red Bull Racing. Mick’s Overall rating has dropped by three, with a handful of penalties significantly hampering his Awareness stat. We hope to see him back in the sport in the future.
