Video game development is full of names that have made groundbreaking steps you’ve never even heard about. Shawn Nash is a behind-the-scenes pioneer responsible for SODA Off Road Racing’s incredible physics, Papyrus’ graphical advancements and iRacing’s use of laser scan data for the physical track surfaces.

This interview with RSC, published in 2021, details his early life and career, through both his own company, Papyrus, Electronic Arts, to his time at iRacing.

As a direct ancestor of iRacing, the ‘Grand Prix Legends engine’ had multiple stock car racing false starts, before eventually releasing as NASCAR Racing 4. The original NASCAR 3, cancelled and replaced by one that used NASCAR 2’s engine, is barely remembered.

It appears Kalisto are still planning to do something with the FIA GT license they acquired a couple of years ago, having been covered by MSN just recently describing again the details of the software we heard of in the initial announcement.

FIA GT, the world’s coolest online concept?
(PC) 5 / 4-2002 by Palle Jensen

Kalisto was able to present today their latest racing title for PC, with perhaps the coolest online concept ever for a game.

Kalisto today unveiled their upcoming FIA GT racing title for PC. Not only does the game already look great, it has perhaps the coolest online concept that has been devised in a long time. When real GT races are run around the world, the cars location on the track, their position in relation to the other cars, speed, etc, are logged on a server that is on the race tracks. This data is then sent to a satellite, which in turn sends them to FIA GT game servers, whereupon it will be possible to play almost realtime against the real race drivers, in the race that is just being run on for example the Monza track.

You can doubt whether it will be technically possible, but if the Kalisto system gets up and running, then it really is a new initiative within online gaming that you can not ignore. The game is set for a release during the spring of 2003.

FIA GT, verdens fedeste online koncept?
