Video game development is rarely about one man, but if it was, then Terence Groening should certainly get a mention for his contributions to the genre as the man responsible for the physics of Sportscar GT, EA’s PC F1 and NASCAR games of the early 2000’s, rFactor, rFactor 2 and every title and rFpro simulator that spawned from ISI’s engine.
This interview with RSC details his early life and career, through to him joining iRacing in 2021.
As a direct ancestor of iRacing, the ‘Grand Prix Legends engine’ had multiple stock car racing false starts, before eventually releasing as NASCAR Racing 4. The original NASCAR 3, cancelled and replaced by one that used NASCAR 2’s engine, is barely remembered.
DRIFT21, due at some point to be renamed DRIFTCE, received a new update yesterday that includes some fixes, tweaks and a caravan for you to drift around with.
Patch notes:
– A new type of challenge: “Special Challenges”.
– New challenges have been added.
– Additional car-mounted part for unlocking special challenges.
– Improvements have been made to the challenge selection window.
– Fixed problem which caused slow counting of drift points during gameplay.
– Fixed bug in reading and handling incorrect data from the save file.
– Fixed views of some windows where texts could overlap.
– Fixed performance drops when throwing objects in garage.
– Fixed a bug in the garage which could cause parts carried in your hand to disappear.
– Fixed bug, which could cause incorrect display of the image after entering the race mode.
– Improved quality of some displayed sprites.
